The Bear: Built on a Land Rover Defender it’s the ultimate tourer  – and even though they are no longer in production we continue to recondition and rebuild them so you can enjoy the Defender experience – It’ll get roughly 12L/100KM on diesel fuel.

At Bear we love the Defender; but we won’t lie – if you are after a brand new 4WD we aren’t for you – but if you want great customer service and a chilled out adventure in the worlds most iconic four wheel drive – get in touch.

Sleeps: Two in a spacious roof top tent with all bedding, towels and pillows supplied. Additional 3 man tents available for additional sleeping arrangements (including, sleeping bags & mats).

Seats: Two to five (depending on layout). Child anchor points available on request – get in early if that is what you are after.

Exploring: Satellite Navigation Included & Satellite Phones available for hire (highly recommended if you want to get off the beaten path).

Living: Side awning, table & chairs, 12 volt dual battery system with charging points.

Kitchen: Two burner stove & 47L fridge and a kitchen box with all pots, pans, cutlery, crockery and the extra bits and pieces you need to cook a tasty campfire meal.

All the other bits included: CD Player with Radio &USB jack – Road side breakdown assistance – Power steering & ABS.

The original Bear Rental – The European is designed to give you and easy and stress free adventure, perfect for touring the coast, but will handle the dirt just as well! Kitted out for two with a  roof top tent (but don’t worry we can arrange additional camping gear for the extra passengers if your group is larger than 2).

This turbo diesel is built tough – it’s great for the dream Australian road trip. With this simple set up you will have camp ready with a chilled drink (straight from the fridge) in your hand in less than 5 minutes!

One way adventures are allowed and best of all; there are no one-way fee’s between most of our depots (If you are flexible on your itinerary let us know – sometimes it’s cheaper to travel the other way).

Minimum driving age:21* with full unrestricted license (*some of our Europeans require you to be 25, so please advise us when you enquire with your age so we can make sure we match you with the correct vehicle).

Kilometre allowance: Unlimited (subject to length of booking – sorry you can’t do Sydney to Perth return in 5 days),

Where you can go: Can be used off road but only on recognised tracks and trails as marked on Hema maps (not sure what this means please ask). Below are the off road tracks (Defined outback area’s) that require our permission to drive on and may be restricted at certain times of the year, so please let us know your planned itinerary if you have any doubts.

Defined Outback Areas: Simpson Desert (recognised tracks and trails only), Strzelecki Track, Gunbarrel Highway, Cape York (recognised tracks and trails only), the Bungle Bungles, Oodnadatta Track, Birdsville Track, Tanami Track, the Plenty Highway, Gibb River Road, Burke Development Road from Chillagoe to Normanton, Savannah Way from Normanton to Borroloola, Finke Road (between Alice Springs and Oodnadatta), Central Arnhem Road and Arnhem Land in general.

Prohibited areas: Fraser Island, The Canning Stock Route, the Old Gunbarrel Hwy, the Lost City in Litchfield National Park, the Telegraph section of the road to Cape York, Boggy Hole (Finke Gorge National Park) and the Old South Road from Maryvale to Finke at any time. Travel to Cape York between the months of December to May.
